Decorate the Winter Blues Away

Now is the perfect time to shake off the winter blues and usher in that spring renewal feeling. Even if spring hasn’t quite “sprung”, you can bid farewell to the dreariness of winter by freshening up your living space.

By the time we reach these final weeks of winter, I’m always eager to revitalize my home and welcome in the vibrancy of spring. My favorite items to transform the home from a winter cave into a refreshing oasis include bright, cheerful colors and creative touches. Leave that winter slump behind and infuse your home with the energy and freshness of spring.

Kate’s “Decorate the winter blues away” items

1. Living with Color book by rebecca atwood

I LOVE Rebecca Atwood's fabric and wallpaper prints. I've done several powder rooms (including my own!) in her bright, happy watercolor wallpaper. She has an incredible eye for color. This book acts as both a pretty coffee table book and a guide on how to incorporate color throughout your home in so many ways!

2. Blue striped serving bowl + lemons

Take a look at almost any design magazine with a picture of a kitchen in it. You know what I bet it has? A bowl of lemons. I'm not sure how this became a designer kitchen item, but you can't deny that the little pop of bright yellow (especially in a colorful bowl) makes a perfect centerpiece to bring life and color into your home.

3. Blue vases

This set of two vases makes a beautiful filler for an empty shelf, and a fantastic centerpiece when filled with budding branches. I have used this set as shelf decor many times, and it always brings a handmade touch and a little pop of color + pattern. One note: please don't put these directly next to the blue striped bowl #2... they're similar but kind of clash. Just separate them so they are not next to each other.

4. Candle + colorful matches

Aren't these matches the cutest little touch? Find a citrus or floral candle that makes your house smell like springtime, and add a little jar of these matches next to it for a fun little pop of joy every time you light one.

5. Minted art

I have this print hanging in my office. I find the colors inspiring, and something about the figure exudes calm and confidence. I look to "her" when I am feeling blah.

6. bright area Rug

This brightly colored rug is the perfect addition to welcome spring into your home (or onto your porch). 54 Kibo sells handmade items by artisans in Africa. The organic cotton is washable, so don't be afraid to throw this down wherever you need a little pop.

7. Spring Wreath

This wreath is simple and classic. The little buds feel just like spring to me. It instantly revitalizes any space.

8. SPEctrum Dishtowels

These cheerful dishtowels are an easy way to bring a dash of bright color into your kitchen or bathroom, no matter your color scheme.

9. Plaid mat

The colors on this mat are just happy. It’s constructed using a hand-loomed flat weave in durable, technical yarns with the soft hand feel of natural fiber. You can easily scrub and hose it. Surprisingly soft and welcoming, this is perfect for porches, playrooms, patios, or any room that needs playful pops of color.

I hope this blog has inspired you to transform those winter blues into spring spectrum of color and renewal. Your decor can make a huge difference in your mood and overall wellbeing.
